Premium Membership Should Be Free

Category: Let's talk

I think it's really stupid that you have to pay for premium membership. It should be something that automatically comes with your zone account. Twenty-five bucks is a little bit overpriced.

Post 2 by shea (number one pulse checking chicky) on Wednesday, 07-Feb-2007 20:30:44

you got to be kidden right? ;i havne't done it just yet because i hven't set up a pay pal account. but it's not over priced. i mean come on. you would pay a lot more else where. and why should they put ll there work and time into it and not get any payment for it. i mean they do have to pay for the site to be up and running you know.

Post 3 by PorkInCider (Wind assisted.) on Wednesday, 07-Feb-2007 20:34:38

Just because stupidity came fre for you, doesn't mean everything else in life should.

I can't believe some people sometimes. I mean it is like going to the supermarket and saying the food i am buying should be free. What is the point?
And zone is much cheeper than other sites. All in play is an example i used several times so i won't analyse it again. And zone offers free features as well. So you should be greatful of what you get.

Post 6 by Blue Velvet (I've got the platinum golden silver bronze poster award.) on Wednesday, 07-Feb-2007 22:31:38

It wouldn't be called premium if it were free. It would be called standard. Some people want everything for free. Grow up and deal with the fact that premium membership is not free and not going to be.

Post 7 by Dave_H (the boringest guy you'll ever know) on Wednesday, 07-Feb-2007 22:39:05

Consider "Premium Membership" a donation incentive. For a small donation, you get a few added features. Unlike Yahoo and such, this site is not supported by massive advertising.

Post 8 by The Shuck Fitter (My name is Liam) on Wednesday, 07-Feb-2007 22:43:04

ya. people fail to realize that the zone's server costs money. No. the server isn't free. there is a fee that needs to be paid every month. Did you know that? Maybe not. the whole point of premium is for those who donate to the site to get a little extra. I'll have to second Kevin's post however.

Post 9 by Nick6489 (11 years a Zoner) on Wednesday, 07-Feb-2007 22:50:17

And you wanna know what that fee is? Try over $100 per month, bubba. You try setting up a zone-clone...Wait, you can't, you wouldn't be able to code it.

Post 10 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Wednesday, 07-Feb-2007 23:35:33

What costs that much? The bandwhith probably is more the cost to run Vintrillo, the Hard disk space to hold the audio profiles, etc.

Post 11 by Selena Fan (Account disabled) on Wednesday, 07-Feb-2007 23:45:11

I'm just happy being a standard member! I mean if I wanted it, I could aford it! Come on our isp cost much more than $25 so everyone can buy the membership! Yeah it should be free, but it isn't! In fact a lot of stuff should be free but there not! Money makes the world go round!

Post 12 by changedheart421 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Thursday, 08-Feb-2007 0:16:46

you are a cheap skate. come on pay the money and enjoy it.

Post 13 by Toonhead71 (move over school!) on Thursday, 08-Feb-2007 1:02:54

Waaa, I'm blind and I want everythig for free. if you don't wanna be premium, cancel your fucking membership and go back to being a standard member.

Post 14 by laced-unlaced (Account disabled) on Thursday, 08-Feb-2007 4:39:44

but, if you want the extra features, pay for them

Post 15 by laced-unlaced (Account disabled) on Thursday, 08-Feb-2007 4:40:21

that's why you are paying in the first place

Post 17 by Shadow_Cat (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Thursday, 08-Feb-2007 8:37:54

I can't even believe this is a topic. I was happy to purchase my own premium membership, as wel as premium accounts for two friends of mine. For as often as I'm on here, JJ and Chris deserve at least that, if not more than they already charge. And what they really don't deserve is a whiner who thinks everything should be free.

Post 18 by tango hopper (the captain of the bitches and slaves and all slavines.) on Thursday, 08-Feb-2007 12:08:32

well, nicos, i agree with you., membership must paid with visa card or other credit card in the uk.
so i do'nt see the point in making the sign up for premium memberships free.
in other words, there is absolutely no point for this.
nicos, are you agreeing with what i just try to tell?
cheers,
tango hopper

Post 19 by tango hopper (the captain of the bitches and slaves and all slavines.) on Thursday, 08-Feb-2007 12:19:10

well, sister, i also agree with your reply.
the first poster of this topic does not know how maney dollars a premium membership will cost.
also i agree with curious liam.
i do'nt think this is a good topic but it's just one of the bored loking topics i have ever sayn.

Post 20 by nikos (English words from a Greek thinking brain) on Thursday, 08-Feb-2007 13:12:45

Tango hopper.
First of all a friendly advice for you. In board poasts don't just talk to one member. If you want to speak to them send them a quicknote.
With paypal already somebody can pay with UK credit cards. Also major cards such as viza work in all countries no matter where you are coming from.
It is other debit cards that may not work in the USA like swich, solo etc. But paypal accepts them.

Post 21 by Damia (I'm oppinionated deal with it.) on Thursday, 08-Feb-2007 13:19:26

premium free.... what you want everything for free whic means everything you own should be free to us.... not that we want it. shut up grow up and if you don't want primium membership then don't get it if you can't aford it don't get it if you just want to wine I have some advice... bend yourself in half backword and kiss your own ass...

Post 22 by sugarbaby (The voice of reason) on Thursday, 08-Feb-2007 13:27:22

ey?

I have a better idea then.

the zone will give you premium free of charge, and pay you to be a standard member. <grin>.

Seriously ...

I do agree that premium membership is overpriced, but the solution is simple, if you don't agree with the price, then don't pay for it.

Post 23 by happy (Generic Zoner) on Thursday, 08-Feb-2007 13:32:28

It would be nice if premiue was free but I don't think its going to happen.

Post 24 by La Cutus (The blind boarg with an attitude problem.) on Thursday, 08-Feb-2007 15:54:06

You guys missunderstood me. I was only saying t I don't think premium membership is worth any money. I mean, ok, it's kind of cool. But some of the features don't seem to me like they should be worth any money. The only feature that should really be worth money is the longer audio profile. Things like costom log in messages just don't seem to me like things that are worth money. I might look in to buying it if it were more like $10 dollars. It would be even better if you could just pick the features you wanted, and each feature would be worth it's own price. I know for a fact that I probably wouldn't use all of the premium features.

Post 25 by La Cutus (The blind boarg with an attitude problem.) on Thursday, 08-Feb-2007 15:59:43

,curious liam, you need to retake english class. Ventrilo is spelled v e n t r i l o. rofl.

Post 26 by yankee g wolverine (Account disabled) on Thursday, 08-Feb-2007 16:32:35

lets look at it this way.
premium,
in short, an expanded version. Or enhanced version.
premium membership,
in short. an enhanced, (or better) version of the zone. Many additional features that Chris and JJ have spent time working on coding and such.
do you need to pay for premium cable channels? of course you do.
do things like that always have the perfect show on? <br? not unless it's the really good porno channels, and those aren't usually good for the blind.
in short, if you don't like what you're buying, wait a second...
why are you buying it? if I'm not mistaken you don't *have* to buy the premium membership at all.
liam and kevin, I second or 3rd rather your opinion 100%

Post 27 by DancingAfterDark (I just keep on posting!) on Thursday, 08-Feb-2007 19:15:19

I have nothing to say about this actual topic except that I second most of what has already been said by Kevin and Liam and Nick and so on, but I felt like pointing out that Liam didn't misspell "ventrilo". John did. Liam was just quoting what he wrote. And I don't think that's a word they generally teach you in English class.

Post 28 by La Cutus (The blind boarg with an attitude problem.) on Thursday, 08-Feb-2007 19:51:23

Lol, erm, no, guess not. Oh well, the only reason I posted this topic in the first place was that I was bored as hell, and I was having a bad day, so I felt like arguing about something. I chose premium membership because me and another friend were discussing whether premium membership was worth $25 or not. ,but, I still think you should be able to pay for the features you want. Erm, yankee gay wolverene, or what ever your name is, with premium cable, you can pay for the channels you want. ,just thought I'd point that out lol.

Post 29 by maddog (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Thursday, 08-Feb-2007 21:20:35

first of all, La Cutus, before you start commenting about people's spelling mistakes, I suggest you look at post 24, and look at your spelling mistakes first, buddy. You misspelled a whole crap load of words, so you shouldn't be talking. Second of all, premium prices are fine the way they are. If you can get cheaper service, from somewhere else, with the same features, then you know what? God speed, and don't let the door hit you on the way out. Better yet, do. It might knock some sense into your empty head.

Post 30 by The Shuck Fitter (My name is Liam) on Friday, 09-Feb-2007 13:48:40

actually no. you can't choose which channels you want. you can choose packages of channels, but you can't actually get a list and pick. In the UK, you can buy different packages of channels like family programming and stuff.

Post 31 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Friday, 09-Feb-2007 15:06:48

Wonder just how many premiums there have been per year since its inception?
Curious minds want to know... Or erh one curious mind does at least...
Oh I agree that I wouldn't use a lot of the feature, but c'mon, its only $25 a year! I haven't paid for premium yet, bbut ya know after this topic has been braught up and the cost have been broken down, I'm seriously considering it.
Set aside the fact that I won't use all the features, that's a shitload of money to put out for a server, and Chris and JJ spend enough time codeing as it is, why make them put even more money out too?
One more thought if I may? How many sites do you get a free lunch at? For what free members get, its one hell of a deal. Everything comes with a price tag though, and if you aren't paying for it, then someone else is.

Post 32 by TonjaGlass (Wisewoman of What?) on Friday, 09-Feb-2007 20:43:27

I do not understand why there have been so many statements about the premium charge being overpriced. There are thousands of sites with less material offered here that charge a minimum of 10 dollars a month. What about those online game sites. My husband pays 36 dollars a month for one friggin game. This is one of the best sites that I have found for blind people and the piddly 25 a year that they charge for premium membership is well worth it. Lets get over the ohhh boohoo I am blind mentallity where the damn cup is still being held out.

Post 33 by Blue Velvet (I've got the platinum golden silver bronze poster award.) on Friday, 09-Feb-2007 23:48:13

Yea Tonja! Amen.

Post 34 by Austin (the magic fan!) on Saturday, 10-Feb-2007 2:57:39

premium free? what weed are you smoking? anyway, 25 bucks is a good price. what if it was 100 bucks? tell me that. you should be greatful it's 25 bucks a month. how about you go cry to your mom or whatever and tell her to make you premium. i've bought myself 1 year of premium and 2 other friends as well. it's not expensive. it's a good deal. and like they say, you don't know what you got untill it's gone. chris and j, can easily decide to raise the price if they feel the need to do so.
man, i would hate to see what chris and j would have to say to this topic..
I'm done now. my rant is over.

Post 35 by The Shuck Fitter (My name is Liam) on Saturday, 10-Feb-2007 10:50:57

tonja. I have to agree.

Post 36 by crimson x (This site is so "educational") on Saturday, 10-Feb-2007 11:24:48

ferst don't give them ideas
second the standerd member ship is better then most and if you don't like it then listen to mad dog.

Post 37 by Jess227 on Saturday, 10-Feb-2007 15:21:04

If this site was free for everyone then there wouldn't be a exclusive area for people who do their part in donating to the site. Because of this little group who pays $25 a year they help pay the bills, in return they get extra stuff.

It does cost money to own and run a server for the stuff we do on this website: Games, quick notes, voice chat, phone service, boards etc. This site is alot cheaper then sites like All in Play etc.

Post 38 by retrieverdog (when I'm in seventh hour, my work does show.) on Saturday, 17-Feb-2007 17:47:53

I hate to be a party pooper and all but... if they were then they wouldn't be premium anymore and the zone wouldn't have sponsors or anything.

Post 39 by Jess227 on Sunday, 18-Feb-2007 9:33:12

Honestly if you can't stand what we have now on the zone then why bother? I mean I've been a free member since I first signed up and don't plan to bother going premium anytime soon because I'm content with what I have.Want more stuff, fork out the cash.
